Salman Khan and Punnet Issar have decided to make a biopic on the legendary wrestler Gama Phelwan. He was born in Punjab and had a reputation of not losing a single wrestling match in a span of 50 years of his career. His real name was Gulam Muhammad Gurjar. He lived in Pakistan after partition. His daily regime contained a diet of 10 litres milk and nearly 5000 squats. He benched weights of nearly 1200 kilos every day. This invincible wrestler’s story has inspired Salman Khan who himself is passionate about bodybuilding.
He has suggested Sohail Khan’s name for the lead and has roped in the gold medalist wrester Sushil Kumar. This 31-year-old world champion is going to train Sohail Khan for the biopic. Sohail is already getting many tips from Salman Khan to brace up for his role as a wrestler. Sushil Kumar has made many appearances on Television and ads. He also participated in Olympics held in Beijing 2008 and won the silver medal. Sohail Khan has acted in a few Bollywood movies such as Krishna Cottage, Darna Mana Hai, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, etc. Recently Vidya Balan shocked him on his sets by dressing as a character from her movie, Bobby Jasoos. Sohail Khan will go through rigorous training for this role of Phelwan. Surprisingly, Salman Khan has opted himself out as a main lead for this movie.
Gama Phelwan was born in 1880 and lived for nearly 90 years. Like Bhag Milkha Bhag, hoping this biopic can inspire many people to develop grit and resistance. Gama Phelwan admitted in his interviews that Raheem Sultania was his strongest competition. Salman Khan’s choice of making movies has always been quite individualist and unique. He never attempts to do anything over the top or philosophical. Yet most of his movies, no matter how farcical, are still embedded with some lessons of life.
Sohail Khan is a 43-year-old actor-producer, who has married Seema Sachdeva and they have three children together. Looks like Salman Khan wants to boost Sohail Khan’s career that seemed to be on a hiatus for a while. Sohail Khan’s performances have always been below average. Since he is being mentored by the Sushil Kumar, and is undergoing rigorous training for the same, we can anticipate some good results. This movie might be produced under the banner of Aarbaz Khan Productions. Like Dabaang, which has won a national award, this biopic too might have the makings of an award winning film.
Nothing much is disclosed yet as it is still in the development stage. Sohail Khan is the youngest of the Khan brothers. Sohail Khan has religiously followed the footsteps of his elder brother, Salman Khan. If he too can garner the same amount of popularity and adoration as Salman, is something we have to wait and watch. This biopic might contain all interesting tidbits of Gama Phelwan’s personal and professional life. Apart from wrestling we might get an insight into the emotions of this legendary phelwan
