After a rather lackluster first half of the year, Bollywood is looking forward to a more fruitful second half. There are around 10 big budget films which are all set to release in the coming months, which might see an upturn in the fortunes of Bollywood producers.
This festive season in Bollywood is going to start on Eid, and will go all the way to the end of the year. Kicking off this spree of potential blockbusters is the Salman Khan starrer Kick. Whenever Sallu bhai releases a movie around Eid, it more or less smashes Bollywood records.
Kick looks all set to take this trend forward. The music of the film has already picked up with the masses, and people are looking forward to this movie. Doesn’t matter whether you are a Salman fan or not, this is one Eid extravaganza you just can’t miss.
This blockbuster will be followed up with Its Entertainment, which releases on 8th August. This comic caper features Akshay Kumar and Tamannaah in lead roles. This movie, which revolves around a dog and Akshay’s misadventures to thwart him, has been directed by writer duo Sajid-Farhad, who has penned blockbusters like Golmaal 3, and Singham. So you can be pretty sure they would have done their best to make an entertaining movie.
Then, on 15th August, Rohit Shetty’s sequel to his 2011 block buster Singham, hits the theatres. Singham Returns couldn’t have been released on a better date than this. This movie and its patriotic flavor capture the essence of Independence day completely. Ajay Devgn reprises his role of supercop Bajirao Singham, and this time, hes back with a new love interest, Kareena Kapoor Khan. While that is definitely an upgrade, the villain in this movie, is a downgrade. Prakash Raj played the despicable baddie Jayakant Shikre in the original movie, and it will be a tough task for Amole Gupte, who plays the villain in this movie, to match up to Prakash Raj’s lofty standards. However, a Rohit Shetty film can be trusted upon to set the cash registers ringing, and Singham Returns is surely going to break Bollywood box office records.
The very next week, Rani Mukherjee’s gritty cop drama Mardaani will hit the theatres. Nowadays women centric movies are doing well on the box office, and this movie is sure to take this trend forward.
On 2nd October, which is the birth anniversary of the world’s most non violent man, Mahatma Gandhi, come two rather violent films- Vishal Bharadwaj’s “Haider”, and Siddharth Anand’s “Bang Bang”. While Haider is Bharadwaj’s adaptation of Shakespearan drama Hamlet, and stars Shahid Kapoor, Bang Bang is India’s official remake of the Hollywood super hit Knight and Day. It will be interesting to see which movie comes out on top in this tussle.
This Diwali is gonna be lit up by the Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Happy New Year. After Om Shanti Om, and Chennai Express, expectations are sky high from this heist movie, which also stars Abhishek Bachhan, Boman Irani, and Sonu Sood in pivotal roles. Farah Khan directs this one.
And this year will end with a customary Aamir Khan release, P.K. Rajkumar Hirani returns to direction with this eagerly awaited movie. Achhe din aane wale hain.
