Mary Kom music review

Mary Kom has got a relatively new musical team of composers in Shashi Suman and Shivam, and lyricists Prashant Ingole and Sandeep Singh.

Ziddi Dil has a very haunting melody, which is elevated to another level with Vishal Dadlani’s vocals.

A motivational song about achieving what the heart has to say, this Shashi-Prashant track has an amazing good pitch that keeps the steam on right through its near five long minutes duration.

The hook is just right too. The key words, Dil yeh ziddi hai keep playing in one’s head.
Shivam and Sandeep come together for Sukoon Mila, which starts off in the beginning with a mouth organ. Arijit Singh, easily the hottest and the popular singer around, takes the mike.

This love song has a very beautiful melody. The lyrics are damn poetic and there is such serenity in the song that you want it to repeat. This one certainly deserves a hearing.

The very well experienced Sunidhi Chauhan’s voice in Adhure is just an apt choice for Priyanka Chopra. The way Sunidhi Chauhan sings it, one can visualise the actress in the frame with a montage keeping the play on.

A very strategically well laid out musical piece by Shashi and Prashant, Adhure lends class to Mary Kom. It’s the kind of number that reminds one of the R D Burman-Gulzar set-up of the 1970s.

Mohit Chauhan is heard next in Shashi-Prashant’s Teri Baari. The situation of the song has the central protagonist being inspired to fly away and achieve her goals.

The song has got an ordinary start and though the hook is good, the subsequent portions in the antara don’t have much of originality. Arijit Singh returns with Shashi-Prashant’s Saudebaazi. A simple composition it has a smooth flow and with the minimal use of instruments. Saudebaazi may not be an instant hit, but it fits into the soundtrack and will keep the smiles coming after repeated playing.

Shivam-Sandeep return with Salaam India, composers by Vishal Dadlani and Salim Merchant behind the mike. In the trilogy of very encouraging motivational songs, this one is third after Ziddi Dil and Teri Baari.

It starts off in a rather subdued manner and reaches its up end after 75 seconds. It has a core situational appeal to it, and won’t have much of a life after the run of the film.

The last number is a lori by lead actress Priyanka Chopra, to Shashi-Sandeep’s track. In complete contrast to her all the international numbers she has sung so far, this one has an Indian melody, which focuses on the title of the song, Chaoro.

Priyanka sings really well. She emphasises on the key words with the correct emotion. The song is quite short and wraps up in 150 seconds.

Mary Kom’s music delivers a little more than what had been expected. While one expected genre-centric songs (Ziddi Dil does that job well), the bonus is the love songs Sukoon Mila and Saudebaazi.

Adhure and Chaoro do well too. The songs in the film may not be the instant chartbusters, but as a soundtrack, Mary Kom holds its own.

Mary Kom Movie Poster

Kareena Kapoor Khan complimented Priyanka Chopra for her stint in Mary Kom

Priyanka Chopra will be seen in the forthcoming biopic titled ‘Mary Kom’. In this film she will be seen in the avatar of a champion boxer. This film revolves around the life of Mary Kom who won big at the Olympics several times. Priyanka Chopra has been receiving a lot of compliments for her role even before the film can release. From the poster and the trailer of this film, we can see that the actress has worked very hard for this role. In the poster we see her in a sporty avatar in a messed up look. The actress portrays zero glamour in this role as it required looking authentic.

Kareena Kapoor recently expressed her thoughts in an interview as she praised Priyanka for her efforts. She said, “I really applaud Rani and Priyanka for Mardaani and Mary Kom. Hats off to the two for even attempting such a different kind of a genre. I definitely tell them this whenever I meet them because I myself can’t do something like this”. Kareena will be seen in the forthcoming sequel ‘Singham Returns’ starring opposite Ajay Devgn who also starred in the original ‘Singham’. She plays the character of a Maharashtrian girl in this film and will be seen speaking a few lines in Marathi during the film. She will also be seen driving an auto rickshaw for a short sequence in this film. It is nice to see that she is openly appreciating the efforts of other lead actresses in the industry.

We realize that Bollwood film makers are putting in efforts to change the gender stereo type that people have. Another film that is set to do this is the forthcoming Rani Mukherjee starrer Mardaani. In this film we see Rani playing the character of a fearless cop. This film revolves around female trafficking and the story depicts the struggles that victims to this heinous crime have to face. Rani Mukerji plays a very bold and strong role as she fights against this crime that demands immediate attention from society. Rani’s look in this film is not glamorous just like Priyanka’s look in ‘Mary Kom’ as she intends to look authentic in her role.
We are now experiencing Bollywood venturing into a genre of movies that are far from just plain entertainment and give us more to ponder about. Mary Kom Movie is set to release on the 5th of September alongside ‘Daawat-e-Ishq’ starring Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Roy Kapur.

Mary Kom is said to be inspired by the biopic on the life of a champion athlete titled ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, starring Farhan Akhtar in the lead role. It will be interesting to watch whether Mary Kom remains to be more successful at the box office after its release. From the poster and trailer of the film we can assume that this film will go on to be a blockbuster at the box office and will be loved by the audience. It is likely that Priyanka Chopra will win awards for her acting performance in this film.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali says: Priyanka has captured the soul of Mary Kom

Priyanka Chopra is all set to play the action packed role of ‘Mary Kom’ in her forthcoming film with the same title. Mary Kom is a biopic on the life of a champion boxer who made us proud at the Olympics several times. This film is set to capture the story of her journey to success and the struggles she had to face to get to the top. Priyanka Chopra has indeed taken up a role that is very challenging and required her to portray the life of a boxer. The actress seemed to work very hard for this role as we can see from the poster and the trailer of this film. We see the actress in a completely different avatar ready to take down any opponent in a boxing match. Her look in this poster is far from glamourous as she had to look authentic in the role of a real life champion boxer. Any amount of glamour would do injustice to the role.

Mary Kom Movie Poster

Sanjay Leela Bhansali happens to be the co-producer of  Mary Kom Movie and he seems to be blown away with Priyanka’s performance in the role she was required to play. He expressed this thought as he said, “We wanted to tell Mary Kom’s story. Her life has everything. Drama, passion, valour, warmth, humour. Her story was waiting to be told on screen. I am honoured that we are doing it.” It seems like Priyanka’s got it perfect this time. The actress has always taken up challenging role in the past and this role as a champion boxer is only an addition to the list of the roles that prove that Priyanka Chopra is a versatile actor and is not afraid to experiment with the characters she plays in films. Priyanka also pulled off challenging roles in films like ‘Barfi’ and ‘7 Khoon Maaf’.

It will be very interesting to watch Priyanka portray the life of a champion boxer who made it big despite all the struggles she had to face. This film also set an example and breaks the stereo type that women can’t be good at a sport that is usually associated by masculinity. Another film that has the same mind-set is the forthcoming crime centric film titled ‘Mardaani’. This film has Rani Mukerji in the lead role playing the character of a cop that will stop at nothing when it comes to eradicating crime from the society. It is nice to know that Bollywood has taken to women centric films that have an overall impact on society as a whole.

As for ‘Mary Kom’, which is set to release on the 5th of September, critics keep high expectations from this film that follows the trend of a sports biopic from the likes of ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ which focused on the life of champion athlete Milkha Singh. Bollywood seems to be in the mood for appreciating and honouring sports star by dedicating a film that showcases their success. In this way, these films also act as encouragement and inspiration to upcoming sports stars.
