Never had I thought that I’d look at boxing something as an analogy for life. But weeks away from the release of one of my most challenging films, Mary Kom, directed by Omung Kumar, all I can think about is how this movie has taught me some of the most very important fundamental learnings in life.
After all, there’s a lot you can learn when you’re standing in that challenging ring, alone and defence less. Like renowned boxer Tex Cobb said, “If you screw up in tennis, it’s 15-love. If you screw up in boxing, it’s your ass, darling!” So here it goes…what I fondly call ‘Lessons From The Ring’ says gorgeous actress Priyanka Chopra.
It’s really hard to defend when someone’s constantly beating you black and blue. And I’m talking about all kinds of knocks — physical, mental and emotional. Mary Kom dealt with all that and that too in style. I told myself everyday that if she could do it, so could I. There were days on the shoot when I felt I couldn’t move another muscle or do another push-up. But at the end of the day, ‘DilYehZiddiHai’..
As a token of her appreciation forone of the very iconic sports star, Priyanka has invited Mary Kom for the launch of the film’s music in Mumbai tonight. The two will be hosting the event along with debutant director Omung Kumar. Besides, they will also be felicitating five people who fought against all the odds to realise their dreams, in sync with the protagonist’s never-give-up attitude.A day before the event, Priyanka tells us that her short stint in the boxing ring has taught her some fundamental lessons that she will never forget. She explains, “It is Mary’s ziddi dil that gave its wings to this film and I’m looking forward to sharing our journey with her. We have a great event planned to launch the film’s music, along with a few surprises. For me, every song in the album comes together in a way that embodies the spirit of the film.”
Composed by Shashi-Shivam, the music of the much awaited film Mary Kom, a biopic on India’s boxing champion MC Mary Kom, will be released on Wednesday night in Mumbai. Singers like Sunidhi Chauhan, Vishal Dadlani, Arijit Singh and Priyanka Chopra have sung the songs in the film.
Priyanka Chopra has already amazed everyone with her muscular look in the Mary Kom Movie, but there is more much she has in store for the fans.
The actress will be seen going bald in one specific sequence. And she was sure excited for it, Priyanka said, “That is a very authentic scene and I was damn excited for it. I never say never, so was all around the set wearing the bald look. As an actor I feel that it is my duty for the role that I portray, that I do it with complete honesty. It is a personal challenge that I set for myself to portray all my characters differently.”
Mary Kom, produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, releases September 5.
